Research Associate, Prosody and Gesture in Biased Questions (June 2023-present)

Compiling and transcribing video corpus of tag, positive, and negative questions. Multimodal coding of video corpus using M3D annotations. Advising on annotation system and liaising results with project leads and other research associates. Research Associate, Klagenfurt Embodied Metaphor in Emotional Contexts Project (August-December 2022)

Developing visual materials for an online Qualtrics experiment, and adapting materials according to results of pilot studies to maximise scientific credibility of potential results. Developed my graphic design skills by sketching by hand and using GIMP and Inkscape to digitise images. Project led by Prof. Jeannette Littlemore (University of Birmingham) and Dr Carina Rasse (University of Klagenfurt) 

External Reviewer for Linguistics: An Interdisciplinary Journal of the Language Sciences (August-October 2022)

Acting as a peer reviewer for a linguistics journal, providing constructive feedback for another researcher based on my expertise in the field and previous experience as a researcher. Commenting on writing style, methodology, validity, and impact of the article. 

Research Associate, The Language of Long Covid Pilot Project (January-May 2022)

Researching stakeholders and delivering summaries of their needs to project leads. Developing materials including the information letter, consent form, and interview guide. Recruiting participants online by liaising with gatekeepers. Organising and conducting focus groups, and transcribing recordings using Panopto. Summarising results for project leads ahead of their application for funding. Project led by Prof. Dagmar Divjak and Prof. Petar Milin (University of Birmingham) 

Research Associate, Metaphor and Household Isolation Project (February-April 2021)

Inductively coding transcripts of interviews for metaphor use and type, re-iteratively coding transcripts to develop coding system, and liaising results to project leads. Taking the results and writing a journal article together with the project leads, adapting the article for submission to journals. Project led by Prof. Jeannette Littlemore (University of Birmingham), Prof. Joanne Brooke (Birmingham City University) and Dr Maria Clark (University of Nottingham) 

Research Assistant, Metaphor and Pregnancy Loss, Death Before Birth Project (February-March 2020)

Taking findings on how people that experience pregnancy loss use metaphor to cope with their grief to develop e-learning materials for the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities for funeral directors and crematorium workers on the importance and retrieval of ashes for the bereaved. Developed my ability to take academic research and turn it into real-world impact, and to deal with sensitive topics. Project led by Prof. Jeannette Littlemore (University of Birmingham)
